Every summer, Salem adults and youth go to the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky and Tennessee to repair homes, making them safer and warmer. Not only do team members learn construction skills, they share and receive Christ’s love. We can make a difference and develop camaraderie, strengthening our Salem family. Please contact Doug Winters if you have questions or comments about our Appalachia Service Project mission trip.
We are currently organizing our teams for our 2017 trip, July 8-15 to West Virginia! It’s not to late to sign up. Contact Doug Winters for more details.
Salem took fourteen volunteers to Johnson County, TN from July 16 -23. It was our 35th year volunteering in the Appalachia area. One of our work crews helped a family by putting siding on their house and sealing around the windows. Our second crew helped another family by putting joint compound on the walls, sanding them and also primed and painted the bedrooms. Downstairs they put joint compound on the drywall in the bedroom and bathroom. We had a wonderful week working together and the families were so appreciative of the work we did for them.
Here are some pics of our 2016 crew hard at work (and play)!
