Karen Beck was hired as the office manager at Salem United Methodist Church in August 2016. She was raised in Millersville, PA and attended Penn Manor High School and then Shippensburg University. She accepted a job and moved to Laurel, Delaware, where she worked as a High School Librarian for 30 years. When she retired in 2014, she moved back to Lancaster County; deciding that 30 years away from my family was long enough. She lives with her parents and her pooch, Paris, in Millersville. She is involved in Millersville Area Meals on Wheels and the Pilot Club of Central Pennsylvania. She enjoys traveling; She's been to Europe several times and has traveled to many places in the U.S.
Peggy Drager graduated from Millersville University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting. She lives in East Hempfield with her husband, Greg and 3 children. Peggy volunteers at Landisville schools and Black Knights Lacrosse Club. She enjoys antiques and walking.
Director of Praise & Worship
Matt Zook has been on staff at Salem since August 2016. He is the husband to Jodi and father to Caleb, Jordan, Katie, and Josiah. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Lancaster Bible College. He has been leading worship since being in high school. God has implanted in him a desire to worship and to see others do the same. Matt also has worked in the construction field for 20 years and continues to do so. In his free time he enjoys playing and coaching soccer.
Director of Music
Cheryl Gingrich has served as choir director at Salem since 2009. Since graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Messiah College, she has taught music in public and private schools in the Lancaster area and has given private lessons from her home studio. Cheryl and her husband, Terry are the parents of 4 adult children. In addition to music, she enjoys reading, cooking, playing Scrabble, and playing or watching tennis and volleyball. During the summer months she enjoys growing and preparing healthy, fresh foods from the garden. She feels privileged to lead the choir and believes that music helps to grow faith and is a fundamental part of everyone’s worship experience. “My heart, O God, is steadfast; I will sing and make music with all my soul.”
Frank Rittenhouse graduated from Manheim Central, attended Rosedale Bible College, and went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree from Lancaster Bible College, and also a Masters of Education degree from Millersville University. Frank is on the team of Organists at Chiques Church of the Brethren and serves here at Salem as our Organist. He has substituted in various local churches and has sung in a mixed quartet, male quartet, various choirs and toured with a Mennonite chorale. Apart from his Organist duties, he has also been employed by Manheim Christian Day School since 1980. Frank feels honored to play Salem’s Reuter Organ each Sunday and he hopes to bless people with the sounds of this mighty instrument.
Church Council Chair
Nolan West and his wife Diana joined Salem UMC shortly after moving to the area in 2011. They have been married for 44 years, have two children and five grandchildren! Their daughter, Cathy Patterson, lives in Manheim and their son, Greg West, lives in Walled Lake, Michigan. Nolan has been employed by Capital Tristate Electrical Distributor since 1969, where he is currently an Area Manager. Besides spending time with his wife, Nolan enjoys fishing, hockey, auto racing and Baron’s football. He is also an avid Rail Fan including model railroading. Both he and Diana are part of the Salem Choir. Since recently taking the position of Church Council Chair, Nolan has enjoyed working with all the staff and members of Salem in trying to do God’s will in our Church and the community.
Trevor Enck has been a member of Salem UMC since 2002. In addition to serving as a Lay Leader, he serves as a liturgist, an usher, member of the sound team, member of the Christian Ed and Staff Parish Relations committees, K-Frog’s teacher, adult Sunday School teacher, and is a player/assistant coach for the church’s softball team. Trevor is a graduate of Manheim Central HS and Lebanon Valley College, and he works at Meridian Products in New Holland as the Special Pricing Coordinator. Trevor lives in Manheim with his two daughters, Kaleigh (8) and Colbie (6). He enjoys fishing, yard work, and attending MC sporting events, and he is a diehard fan of the Chicago Cubs.
Karen Potter has been a member of Salem since 1978 serving in a variety of positions including Sunday School and chapel teacher, usher, member of SPRC, and Christian Education director. She taught first grade in the Warwick school district for 25 years, retiring in 2012. She is married and lives in Penryn. Karen has two grown children and six grandchildren.
